The Conversation
That Changed Everything
Like many transportation professionals, Peter had serious concerns about the future of electric trucks.
In 2023, Peter was introduced to a company in California seeking lease financing for heavy-duty battery electric trucks. At the time, he wasn't convinced.
- ✕The trucks were too expensive
- ✕Charging infrastructure wasn't ready
- ✕Range limitations would restrict operations
- ✕Battery technology wasn't proven
- ✕The vehicles were too heavy for real-world use
- Large fleets were already operating battery electric trucks at scale — not one- or two-truck pilots
- Fleets were successfully deploying 50 to 100 trucks in real-world applications
- The technology was performing. The perception simply hadn't caught up to the reality
Peter recognized that the trucking industry was entering a period of transformation — and that fleets would need experienced partners to help navigate the transition. He saw an opportunity to apply more than two decades of transportation, asset management, analytics, and leasing experience to a new asset class in an industry he knew inside and out.
After extensive research, industry collaboration, and securing capital to support deployment at scale, ZET Financial was founded.
The perception and the reality were no longer the same.
